Well, hell's bells. I didn't intend to let this sit for nearly two months. Hm, intention -- is this another paving stone?

Anyway, I've once again returned from Kansas, and a week's work with my sister on our late parents' house. Forty-one years of accumulation -- IN THAT HOUSE. I have no idea how many years of previous accumulation they moved in with, or how many they inherited from the two sides of the family. Buncha STUFF.

(Sheri, I promise to do my very best to cull my belongings and papers! I's got da religion!)

I've thrown the cats out of the office again. They are Capricious When Bored. That means they tend to bite whatever papers are in their reach if they feel I'm not paying them enough attention. Thunder has made deep scallops in a cardboard box; I'm thinking of turning it into a little den for them. It wouldn't take much cutting at this point!

One thing that has me thoroughly befuddled these days is Legs. She's 19, and a beautiful coppery red, which I understand is called "chestnut" in this part of the country. (Funny, all the roastable chestnuts I've seen were dark brown. Oh well!) She's also tall and leggy, and my friend, pretty much. My buddy tia_tarina has to part with her, and some madness has possessed me to agree to take her in/on.

Weird that I'm so cross-eyed about this -- when I was a kid, I was horse-crazy. Heck, I wanted to BE a horse. My parents couldn't afford a horse. Now I'm old enough to think I can afford it, and I'm aghast that I'm taking on such a responsibility. Surely I'm not old enough to be responsible!-)

The hand-off doesn't happen until June 1st. I'm trying not to let my feet get cold!

Not upstairs -- that's the guest room! She'll be fambly!

She's staying at a place called Spiritwood, about a mile past the intersection of Parmer and 1431. She'll have other horses to cavort with, and good care. If I get my nerve up, I may even ride her again! (She said, carefully not looking at the scar on her shoulder.)

So glad to see you post again!

Now you can tell us all about your latest obsession!

Big thing, getting a horse. It's nice that it's a horse you know well, from someone who will be glad to lend a helping hand indefinitely ... That's gotta take some of the panic out!

Will she remain Legs, or has she revealed another name to you?

I was horse-crazy as a kid, too, and we couldn't afford riding lessons (or my sensible dentist father had no intention of starting that habit in me.) So I never rode -- I wanted lessons, to learn how to do it correctly and safely. I knew experienced people who got hurt riding ... in fact, pretty much everyone I know who has owned horses or ridden extensively has been seriously injured on a horse. So I did very little screwing around on horses.

I hope this is a great experience for you both!
